How to Fix a Sliding Door That Won't Slide

A smooth sliding door is one of those things you don't think about, until it stops working. If yours is sticking, jumping off the track, or feels like you're shouldering a fridge across the room, you're not alone. After 25+ years repairing sliding doors across Perth, we see the same handful of culprits over and over.
1. Worn or seized rollers
Rollers carry the entire weight of the door. In Perth's coastal suburbs especially, salt and dust eat through cheap rollers in just a few years. Once they seize, the door drags on the track and damages everything it touches.
The fix is straightforward: replace the rollers with quality, brand-matched units and re-set the height so the door glides under its own weight.
2. A damaged or pitted track
Even new rollers won't help if the aluminium track they sit on is bent, pitted or worn. Look down the length of the track, if you can see grooves or kinks, it needs replacing.
3. Build-up of dirt and grit
Sometimes a vacuum and a wipe-down is enough. But if your door has been crunching for months, the grit has likely already chewed through the roller wheels.
